Why I Love Running

For this blog post, I decided to take a different route from my usual posts. While I still aim to provide valuable information about health and fitness, this time it’s not directly about improving your golf game. Why I love running…

I’ve been an athlete my whole life, enjoying running as part of playing sports but never for recreation or training. That all changed when I had kids. With kids came the need for a mental escape, and running provided that and much more. There’s something incredible about running in solitude, truly listening to your mind and body.

Here are a few benefits I’ve personally noticed from running:
  • Mental Clarity: Running helps me clear my mind, providing a peaceful escape from daily stress.
  • Motivation: It boosts my drive in business, personal life, and more.
  • Improved Heart and Lung Health: Running strengthens the cardiovascular system.
  • Improved Body Composition: Regular running aids in maintaining a healthy weight and body composition.
  • Increased Strength: It enhances overall muscular strength.
  • Creativity: The solitude of running often sparks new ideas and solutions.

When I started running more, I thought I just wanted an hour away. But soon, I found myself craving the feeling of running. It’s incredibly satisfying to set a goal and achieve it, which I’ve done numerous times as a runner. Remember, you don’t have to go fast. One of the worst things a new runner can do is run too fast. Start slow, and run at a pace where you can maintain a conversation.

Having been in the fitness industry and involved in sports for years, I’ve tried every kind of fitness activity and trend out there. Nothing challenges you quite like endurance training. I love running! Maybe for you, it’s cycling, hiking, walking, climbing, or swimming. The point is, endurance activities provide numerous benefits and should be incorporated into everyone’s life. Remember, slow is good, and slower is better to start!

Why write a blog post about this? One of the biggest struggles for golfers and athletes is the psychological aspect of their sport. Overthinking before a shot or experiencing panic before a game can be debilitating. Meditation, deep breathing, and positive self-talk are common methods athletes use. Another effective activity for mental health is endurance training—in my case, running.

You don’t have to be the fastest, and please don’t compare yourself to others. This is a race against yourself, literally! Consistency in training will lead to improvement. So, what are you waiting for?
